What Is Undaria Pinnatifida?
Undaria Pinnatifida, commonly known as Wakame, sea mustard or Japanese kelp, is a marine algae that grows in challenging environmental conditions, including exposure to UV light, water movement and abrasion.
Its ability to withstand these conditions is associated with its content of fucoidan, a sulphated polysaccharide that contributes to the structural stability of the algae.
Undaria Pinnatifida in Cosmetics
Wakame contains naturally occurring proteins, lipids, micronutrients, vitamins and sugars. These components contribute to its use in cosmetic formulations designed to provide revitalising and conditioning effects on the skin.
Fucoidan found in Undaria Pinnatifida has been reported to have radical-scavenging and hyaluronidase-inhibitory properties. These properties are associated with the use of Wakame as an active ingredient in anti-ageing cosmetic formulations.
