What Is Polypropylene (PP)?

Polypropylene (PP) is a translucent plastic resin commonly used for cosmetic packaging. Compared with polyethylene (PE), PP has lower porosity, which reduces the potential migration of product components through the packaging.

Cosmetic Packaging Applications

PP is commonly used for:

• Shampoo and conditioner bottles
• Cream jars
• Bath oils
• Sun tanning oils
• Other products containing high concentrations of vegetable or mineral oils

Its lower porosity makes it particularly useful for packaging formulations containing significant amounts of oils.

PP Closures and Lids

Polypropylene is also widely used for cosmetic packaging closures. It is commonly used to manufacture:

• Flip-top lids
• Top-disc closures
• Blind covers
• Discs placed under cream jar lids to prevent direct contact between the product and the lid
