Cosmetic Uses of Octinoxate
Octinoxate is primarily used as a UV filter and UV absorber in sunscreen and other sun care products. It absorbs ultraviolet radiation and is therefore incorporated into formulations designed to protect the skin from sun exposure.
The ingredient has also been reviewed by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use as an active ingredient in OTC sunscreen products. The original source states an approved concentration of up to 7.5% for this use.
