What Is a Neck Finish?
When choosing a bottle, the neck finish determines which type of cap or closure can be used with the packaging. It is an important specification to consider when selecting cosmetic packaging.
A neck finish is normally identified by two numbers, for example:
- 20/410
- 20/415
- 24/410
- 24/415
The first number represents the outer diameter of the neck opening in millimetres. The second number identifies the thread configuration and height of the neck.
Neck Finish and Cosmetic Packaging
The bottle and closure must have compatible neck finishes to ensure proper fit and functionality. This is particularly important when selecting pumps, sprays, dispensers, screw caps or other closures for cosmetic products.
The neck finish should therefore be confirmed when developing or sourcing cosmetic packaging, especially when a specific closure or dispensing system is required.
