This plant is commonly known as Marshmallow, White Mallow or Althea and is listed in the British Herbal Pharmacopoeia as well as in most of the European Pharmacopoeias. It contains very high levels of mucilage (polysaccharide sugars), which make it emollient, demulcent and vulnerary (wound healing). It is used topically for the treatment of abscesses, boils, varicose and thrombotic ulcers. Marshmallow is the perfect choice for skin smoothing, soothing and for its anti-inflammatory properties.
