Detailed Project Description
1. Introduction — From Family Heritage to a Beauty Brand
CRÈEM Organics is a family-owned Hungarian beauty brand built around the Varga family's connection to medicine, lavender cultivation and natural wellness.
The story began with the family's medical background and developed through the cultivation and distillation of lavender on their estate in Visz, Somogy County. Over time, this unique combination of scientific knowledge, family heritage and a deep connection with nature evolved into the vision for CRÈEM Organics.
A&T Formulation joined the project as a long-term development partner, working closely with the founders to turn this vision into a complete cosmetics brand. Over a three-year period, our role extended far beyond formulation development. We contributed to the concept, product range, formulations, packaging, laboratory testing, production environment, regulatory process and overall project management.
The result was a complete, coherent and commercially viable beauty brand developed from the ground up.
2. What is CRÈEM?
CRÈEM was conceived around the idea of bringing together medical knowledge and natural care.
The brand combines the family's experience in medicine with their own lavender cultivation and essential oil production. Its philosophy is based on natural ingredients, technological precision, quality and a close connection with nature.
From the beginning, the ambition was not simply to create another natural cosmetics line, but to develop a premium brand that could compete internationally while remaining rooted in its Hungarian origins.
A&T Formulation helped the founders translate this vision into tangible products, formulations and processes while maintaining consistency between the brand concept and the technical requirements of cosmetic development.
3. The CRÈEM Product Line
The CRÈEM product range was developed as a complete body and personal care collection centred around the brand's signature lavender ingredient.
The range includes:
- Deodorant Cream — 50 ml
- Hydrating & Regenerating Hand Cream — 75 ml
- Hydrating & Regenerating Body Cream — 200 ml
- Nourishing Body Balm — 200 ml
- Shower Gel — 300 ml
- Lavender Essential Oil — 15 ml
- Lavender Water — 100 ml
- Lavender Soap — 100 g
- Hair Conditioner — 300 ml
- Shampoo — 300 ml
A&T Formulation was responsible for the custom formulation development of the products and worked with the founders to establish the product architecture and technical direction of the range.
4. CRÈEM Nourishing Body Balm
One of the flagship products of the CRÈEM range is the Nourishing Body Balm.
The formulation combines pharmaceutical-grade lavender essential oil with nourishing oils including olive, avocado, argan and jojoba, together with shea butter and other carefully selected functional ingredients.
The objective was to create a rich, nourishing product without the heavy, greasy after-feel traditionally associated with many oil-rich balms.
A key formulation challenge was therefore to develop a unique texture that would initially behave as a balm but transform into an oil-like consistency when applied to the skin. This required careful selection of natural structuring agents, oils and waxes, combined with controlled processing and homogenization.
The finished product is a water-free balm packaged in a 200 ml tinted glass jar. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant within the formulation.
5. The Founders Behind the Brand
Dr. Péter Pál Varga — Co-Founder
Dr. Péter Pál Varga is an internationally recognized spine surgeon and professor whose medical career spans several decades.
His professional background became an important part of the CRÈEM concept. His interest in the medicinal applications of lavender developed over many years and ultimately led to the family's decision to establish their own lavender plantation and distillery.
After retiring from active medical practice, his focus increasingly turned toward the study and use of essential oils, particularly lavender. Together with his daughter, he subsequently founded CRÈEM Organics.
Melinda Varga — Creative & Product Development Director
Melinda Varga brought the family's medical and botanical heritage into the world of cosmetics and beauty.
Her vision was to build a brand around well-being, natural care and high-quality product development. She was closely involved in the development and manufacturing process and worked alongside the laboratory team throughout the creation of the product range.
A&T Formulation worked closely with Melinda and the wider CRÈEM team throughout the project, helping translate the family's vision into technically sound, scalable and market-ready cosmetic products.
6. The Story of Lavender
Lavender is the heart of CRÈEM Organics.
The family established its lavender plantation in Somogy County, eventually developing a two-hectare plantation containing approximately 14,000 plants. A dedicated distillery was subsequently established to produce the family's own lavender essential oil.
This created a particularly distinctive foundation for the brand: cultivation, distillation and cosmetic production could all take place within the same ecosystem.
The proximity of these three stages allowed the brand to maintain close control over the origin and quality of its key botanical ingredient.
For A&T Formulation, this presented an opportunity to formulate products around a genuinely distinctive hero ingredient rather than simply adding lavender as a marketing element.
7. The Production Laboratory
One of the most significant elements of the project was the creation of CRÈEM's own manufacturing environment.
The production laboratory was completed in 2023, with András Tallér of A&T Formulation acting as consultant during its creation. The facility was designed according to modern international standards and achieved GMP certification under ISO 22716:2017 in its opening year. Tea Tallér of A&T Formulation provided professional supervision.
A&T Formulation therefore contributed not only to the products manufactured within the facility, but also to the development of the environment and processes required to manufacture them.
This allowed CRÈEM to establish a controlled, small-scale production model in which cultivation, distillation, formulation, manufacturing, packaging and storage could operate in close proximity.
8. Why Was the Brand Created?
The founders wanted to create a natural cosmetics brand that genuinely reflected their own values and expertise.
The ambition was to combine natural ingredients with scientific precision and create products that could compete with established international brands in both quality and appearance. The brand concept placed particular emphasis on sustainable materials, carefully selected ingredients and transparent sourcing.
A&T Formulation helped shape this initial vision into a practical product development and manufacturing framework.
Rather than treating the project as a collection of individual formulation briefs, we worked with the founders to develop the wider system behind the brand — from the product range and formulation philosophy to production, packaging and regulatory requirements.
9. Who Is CRÈEM Created For?
CRÈEM was developed for consumers who value natural, premium and ethically produced cosmetics and who see personal care as part of a broader wellness lifestyle.
The target audience is primarily environmentally conscious consumers looking for high-quality products with transparent sourcing, natural ingredients and a strong connection to sustainability. The brand was designed with both the Hungarian and wider European market in mind.
This positioning influenced the formulation philosophy, ingredient selection, packaging choices and overall visual direction of the brand.

10. Formulation Development
Formulation development was one of A&T Formulation's central responsibilities throughout the project.
The formulations were developed around the brand's philosophy of minimal, carefully selected ingredients while maintaining product performance, stability and a premium sensory experience.
For the Nourishing Body Balm, particular attention was given to the interaction between natural oils, butters, waxes and the structuring system required to achieve its distinctive gel-oil texture.
The formulation process involved extensive testing and refinement. Experimental formulations were evaluated for stability, texture and performance, with formulations being modified whenever raw materials or technical characteristics did not meet the required standards.
Stability testing included different temperature conditions and evaluation of both unpackaged and packaged products.
The result was a range of formulations designed to combine natural ingredients with modern cosmetic performance.
11. What Happened Behind the Scenes?
The development of CRÈEM Organics was a multi-year project involving much more than the development of formulas.
During the first stages, the overall concept and product architecture were established. This was followed by formulation development, raw material evaluation, laboratory testing, packaging development, production facility planning, equipment selection and regulatory preparation.
A&T Formulation coordinated and managed these interconnected processes over approximately three years, acting as a central technical and project management partner for the founders.
This included coordinating suppliers and laboratories, resolving technical challenges, supporting production trials and helping ensure that the different elements of the project remained aligned with the original brand vision.

12. From Product Development to a Complete Brand
The CRÈEM project is a strong example of A&T Formulation's end-to-end approach.
Our involvement extended from the first concepts through to finished, compliant products and the operational infrastructure behind them.
A&T Formulation:
- developed the cosmetic formulations;
- selected and sourced raw materials;
- sourced and coordinated packaging suppliers;
- managed laboratory testing;
- supported stability and quality evaluation;
- contributed to the design and development of the production facility;
- supported GMP implementation;
- managed regulatory documentation;
- prepared the products for EU market entry;
- coordinated PIF and CPNP requirements;
- contributed to the development of the product range;
- supported the founders in shaping the wider brand concept;
- and managed the overall development project for three years.
The result was not simply a collection of cosmetic products, but a complete beauty brand built together with the founders.
The brand has subsequently received recognition in the beauty industry, including recognition for the CRÈEM Nourishing Body Balm at the European Natural Beauty Awards. The brand founder, Melinda Varga, was also recognized with the Elle Skin and Body Award, while CRÈEM products have been featured in publications including Marie Claire, Glamour, Elle and InStyle.

13. Sustainability
Sustainability was incorporated into the project at multiple levels — from ingredient sourcing and formulation to manufacturing, packaging and logistics.
The production concept was intentionally designed around small-scale, on-demand manufacturing to reduce excess inventory and product waste. The facility incorporated energy-efficient solutions including insulation, heat-exchange ventilation and solar panels.
The formulations were also designed with a minimal-formulation philosophy, using carefully selected ingredients while avoiding unnecessary raw materials and reducing the potential for material waste.
The packaging strategy included recyclable glass, recycled plastics, sugarcane-based tubes and FSC-certified paper. Packaging suppliers were selected according to defined sustainability criteria, with the aim of reducing environmental impact without compromising the premium appearance of the products.
14. Formula Innovation
The Nourishing Body Balm represents one of the most technically distinctive products developed for CRÈEM.
Instead of relying on conventional water-based cream systems, the formulation uses a water-free oil-gel approach. Natural oils are structured and crystallized to create a stable, smooth texture that remains comfortable on the skin.
The formulation process involved controlled heating, cooling, addition of lavender oil at a defined temperature and high-shear homogenization to create the desired crystalline structure and viscosity.
This approach allowed the product to retain the richness expected from a balm while creating a more elegant and easily spreadable sensory experience.
15. Packaging & Regulatory Development
Packaging was treated as an integral part of the product and brand development rather than as a final-stage requirement.
A&T Formulation sourced and coordinated packaging solutions that reflected CRÈEM's premium positioning and sustainability objectives, including glass packaging, recycled plastics, sugarcane-based tubes and FSC-certified cartons.
At the same time, A&T Formulation managed the technical and regulatory requirements necessary to bring the products to market.
The products were developed to comply with applicable European Union cosmetic regulations, with the required laboratory testing, safety assessment, Product Information File and CPNP registration completed for EU marketability.

The Result
CRÈEM Organics became a complete premium natural cosmetics brand built around a genuinely differentiated story: a family's medical heritage, its own lavender cultivation and distillation, carefully developed natural formulations and a strong commitment to sustainability.
For A&T Formulation, the project represents the type of partnership in which we add value far beyond individual formulation development. Over three years, we worked alongside the founders across formulation, packaging, testing, production, regulatory compliance, facility development, concept development and project management.
From the original idea to a complete, market-ready beauty brand — A&T Formulation was there throughout the journey.
